21st of September

According to Earth, Wind and Fire’s well-renowned prophecy,

Today is a sacred holiday!

For it is the 21st night of September that encourages souls to sing, clouds to be chased away and hearts to ring.

And so I awoke expecting a miracle predicted from the 70’s. Maybe an asteroid would finally end our collective misery or a confirmation of the lizard people’s oppressive rule would justify the dumpster fire that is our modern civilisation.

But nay, the 21st of September has come and gone and I haven’t been spontaneously impregnated by divine will.

But instead, I have understood.

I have understood that the magic of this date is sparked when I got to use my new eyeliner pen this morning!

And it continued through to when the bus was randomly 5 minutes late the very day I was running 5 minutes late because I insisted on blending out my blush to perfection.

And it kept alive when I accidentally bough $30 worth of vegan nutella and cookie butter because it just felt right.

And it still burnt as I ate an entire avocado, seasoned as I scooped, along with my mother’s perfectly spiced curry and fresh jasmine rice.

And it’s still dancing as I type right now, Bean is licking his paw on the chair next to me, I am being bit e v e r y w h e r e by some greedy geese mosquitoes and Bambi lies at my feet because she’s a sucker for cold floors

on this perfect and picturesque spring night.

I’ve realised that the 21st of September is not a sacred holiday, but rather a fun date where a good thing happened for Roland Bautista

And that also has the ideal syllables and rhyme scheme for a good hook.

But also, as (vegan) cheesy as this may be, every day truly is the 21st of September.

Bliss and crisis exist within every fold and stitch of the patchy and unironed ballgown of life.

It’s up to us to either label said dress as mopping material or as boujee streetwear that a generic yet snobbish retail chain will knock off in 2 months.

Divinity is embroidered deep within the mundane and decorates with colourful thread and soft silk the very fabric of our otherwise bleh existence.

And for that, I am eternally grateful.

Happy 21st of September chads!! <3
