I was listening to ‘Bad Girls’ by M.I.A for the 495 738th time and suddenly
It clicked!
I’m getting my license in less than a month. I can operate vehicles that can take me to the ends of the Earth all by myself.
I was reading a Reddit thread about how washing machines were one of the best inventions for women because it eliminated the need such a laborious and time-wasting chore as hand washing clothing, and suddenly
It clicked!
I’m not trapped in the 50’s. Time otherwise spent mixing a heavy load of wet clothes can now be used in travel, adventure and learning! I am not a cleaning robot!
I was reading Jane Austen’s marvellous works and suddenly
It clicked! I too can write magical pieces, with my own twist of humour, sarcasm. Although Austen uses it quite elegantly, I don’t have to rely on restricting structures or arbitrary rules, I can create how I please!
I observed my mother move three fridges, not asking for any help and refusing any offering of, simply because she didn’t require it, and suddenly
It clicked!
I can move fridges, mountains, and constructs if I feel like it. There is literally nothing in my way!
Oh, how grateful I am for such extraordinary role models and privileges! I can vote! I can dance! I can become a world leader!
The human experience is vast and limitless and the sudden realisation of this was one of the most exhilarating moments of my young life.
And the day I become a catalyst for another person’s realisation of this fact, is the day one of my purposes will be achieved.
M.I.A is completely right! Bad girls truly do it well.
Fingers crossed we all grow up to be the baddest. <3
