Isn’t it absolutely wild how a couple of letters switched around of two words with technically the same dictionary definition can mean something completely different?
The best possible example that comes to mind is luggage versus baggage.
Luggage is light.
It is meticulously selected and contains only what its packer deemed worthy.
The syllables of luggage promise travel and great freedom. Movement.
An endless and unexpected adventure lies at one’s feet when they carry their luggage in their eager hands. Breeze and ease are what it hopes to aid you in.
Baggage is heavy. Nay, soul-consuming!
It crushes each and every skeletal disk and tires you out with just a meagre glance. Baggage is a burden, nothing less, and taken on without any consent. It is just a/pathetically accepted.
Baggage does not offer avenues of movement, but an assurance of the recycled trudge in the mundane. It only grows with time and is allergic to any possibilities of a spring clean.
The only difference between the two is that the packer of the luggage claims their power. The power of choice. They don’t hoard emotions and shove in stagnant beliefs. Instead, they pick items that spark joy, that serve their highest good and most importantly, the packers leave space for whatever is to come.
The packers of baggage are passive and take everything on, forgetting they can choose what goes in their briefcase, and even the briefcase itself can become a suitcase or a bumbag. They hoard, my god, do they hoard! Without the self-awareness to reevaluate and analyse all that they carry, they grow fond of the self-inflicted misery.
We all experience trauma and euphoria, heartbreak and passion. It is a natural happening in the human experience. On your journey of life, you choose what you travel with and what takes up your precious and finite space. Remember, pack light!
