I saw a person obnoxiously stomp their feet at a doggo until the poor pup was so frightened that he hid.
The person rejoiced in their ‘victory,’ believing themselves to be the pinnacle of success.
Don’t worry, I yelled at this moron and made them feel quite badly,
And then I patted the doggo to let him know he was safe and okay
He didn’t need to hide anymore.
This is the perfect example of the misuse of power.
To hit a child, who is vulnerable and weaker than you, even if it is just a ‘spank’ is a gross misuse of power.
To turn away and dehumanise refugees and asylum seekers, simply because you won the geographical birth lottery is an ignorant misuse of power.
To catcall a woman, making her feel unsafe and uncomfortable, is a cowardly misuse of power.
To pay into and purchase products from an industry that systematically oppresses and slaughters powerless and innocent animals is an atrocious misuse of power.
After committing all these vile acts, we have the audacity to complain about how all politicians do is misuse their power. We, the innocent, feel oppressed and powerless, unsafe and uncomfortable, horribly vulnerable! And none of it is the people’s fault! Ironic, isn’t it?
My fellow human being, you contribute to a lot more injustice than you realise. You take away your own power by saying,
“One person makes no difference.”
There are 7 billion people saying the exact same thing.
If you want to remain a pathetically powerless person who shifts all blame to an external force and lives in their victim complex, then that guilt must be carried on your own conscience.
I, however, am no victim.
I will never disrespect an animal.
I pledge to never hit a child.
I will support my brothers and sisters, stuck on a boat or in detention centres or trapped in their own dangerous country.
I will never harass another and I will always stand up for them whenever it is safe to do so.
I will remain vegan for the rest of my life, and coming lifetimes, because it is the objectively right thing to do.
I know that one person can make a world of difference.
So I will not misuse my power,
Nor take it away from myself,
But become an empowered individual,
Who then empowers the world.
