Prisoner vs Pioneer

“Everytime you are tempted to react in the same way, ask yourself if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.” -Deepak Chopra

Stagnant periods of time are inevitable and possibly even important. After all, how can you enjoy the highs if you haven’t experienced the lows? But, there’s quite a difference between being in a slump and feeling utterly stuck.

It is so easy to fall into a simple routine everyday, treating each day like a burden and sleep like an escape, removing the value of each moment and instead focusing on what is next or what has happened, just like a prisoner of the past does.

It takes true courage to begin pioneering, exploring, discovering and just doing!

Deepak Chopra presents us with quite the revolutionary ultimatum, and with that raises a fair point. It does not matter what is occuring in your life, what tools you’ve been given to deal with it or the unfairness of the situation, but how you react. Especially, reacting how you always do.

Your reaction does not have to be some grand and cinematic gesture, but simple everyday reactions like trying a new flavour of tea, or saying ‘good morning’ and ‘thank you’ to your bus driver when you usually wouldn’t or even just sending a text of appreciation to your friend right now.

When you start reacting differently, magic will happen.
