I’ve been closely observing my interaction with people lately.
The way they make me feel, the purpose of them approaching me and the way they do so.
And I’ve come to the slightly depressing conclusion that the way people treat me is
Putrid!
Revolting!
Pathetic!
It’s okay to yell at me because I’m quick to forgive.
And you don’t have to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ because I’ll throw myself on a bomb for you anyways.
And it’s totally fine to approach me whenever you need something and drain me completely,
And then ignore my existence when you don’t because I’m inanimate and without feeling and am only alive in YOUR world.
No more.
It is a bit of a shock when you realise that many of the people you value and care about are completely undeserving of you.
But it’s a good shock!
It’s a reset.
It’s a reminder that I’m not a side character aiding in everyone else’s journey, I’m the main character travelling and creating my own.
It’s a nudge to channel the frustration and hurt I feel to create wiser and stronger boundaries.
I know I’m an asset and a really precious one at that, and I know that everyone around me knows too. But it’s time you all start behaving like it! Or, in the wise words of Alicia Keyes, you’ll never see me again.
I now know why genuinely kind people are far and few. It’s because of obnoxious and greedy majority that break them down to their core with hurt and blunder, exploit their shattered flesh as much as they can and then run the hell away like the pitiful cowards they are.
I refuse to be a victim to that treatment.
It was Mia Thermopolis’ chauffeur in the Princess Diaries that once said,
‘No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.’
And my god, do NONE of you, not one single human being on this Earth,
Have my consent anymore.
