The Malnourished Human Spirit

Where did we go so wrong?

The human race has always been one of progress, conflict, empathy, apathy and change.

Millenias of history have passed us all by, yet we remain in constant stagnation. If anything, we've certainly gone backwards.

I can already sense your confusion. You are questioning whether I’m living under a rock and can’t see all the exciting advancements around me. Modern medicine, the internet, wheels. What else could anyone need?

You are somewhat correct. I am infinitely grateful for living a life of luxury, especially in a developed country. I am thankful for clean, running water, food always at my fingertips and safety.

As vital and precious as these resources are, they exist in the physical realm.

I believe there is something deeper, something I can’t quite name or put a finger on.

The ancient humans were nomadic, travelling, moving, running. Exactly what was meant for the human spirit.

I sit all day, trapped in a concrete box, feeling a tinge of adventure through scrolling through Instagram.

The ancient humans spent their days reading the stars, practising magic, creating art in all forms & connecting to the Earth.

I spend my days doing chores, staring at my concrete ceiling aimlessly, and feeling as disconnected and isolated as ever.

The ancient humans worked with the Earth to survive, bathed in her streams, ate from her soil and danced in the nude with her.

I get to see grass on my way to my bus stop.

Why have we strayed so far from the Earth? We see the ancient humans as primitive, or barbaric and turn away our heads with a sense of superiority since we have electricity and taxes.

But I believe that the ancients had it completely right. I know there was suffering, pain and discomfort then. But I also know that there is suffering, pain and discomfort here.

‘Civilisation’ does not nourish the human spirit. It wasn’t even designed for the human spirit.

I cannot remember the last time I felt like a human being. Raw, unfiltered humanity. Can you?

I've always wondered how we got the idea that our ancestors were stupid. Like weren't they super smart, well obviously not book smart, it wasn't invented, I mean they kinda were though because they invented/founded so many things that helped them survive the harsh winters (houses and fire). But they were also hyper aware of their surroundings for predators, and health smart, because they ate natural, organic, non-processed foods and they were basically exercising everyday to survive. They created language and how to communicate it across, and what they all mean and how to use them in certain situations. All this stuff happened and we just look at them as stupid just because they don't know what we know today,…
